Custom Orders

----------------------------

UPDATE 3/6/08:

I AM NOT ACCEPTING CUSTOM ORDERS AT THIS TIME.  Sorry for the inconvenience, folks -  I'm just too busy with the housebus project right now.  I encourage you to sign up for my mailing list (you can do this on my homepage) if you would like to be notified when I begin accepting customs again. Thanks!!!

-----------------------------

I love turning your dream clothes into a reality! Read on to learn more about custom orders...

Nuts and Bolts of Custom Orders:

I need three things before I can begin any custom order: your instructions, your measurements and your $20 deposit.  Deposits are not an additional fee - they will be credited towards your final total. Deposits are non-refundable.

When I get your e-mail containing your instructions, measurements and preferred method of payment for the deposit, I'll get back to you with information on how to pay your deposit (it'll be an address for snail mail payments or a Paypal invoice for electronic payments). Lots of folks like to e-mail me for a quote before they commit to anything which is fine by me. All quotes are based on the amount of time a comparable order has taken me in the past. I currently use this formula: $12/hr for labor plus $5-$15 in cost of materials depending on the size and type of order.

(Hopefully) Helpful Thoughts about Placing your Custom Order:

Experience shows that the more specific you are about what you want the more likely you are to be happy with the end result.  I have listed a few questions below to help guide you through the process of placing a custom order.  You can answer all of them, some of them or none of them - they're just there to help you identify what is important in your custom piece.   "I don't care" is an OK answer, too.

For me, it's all about what will make you happy in the end.  I want you to *LOVE* your custom piece of clothing! :)

  • Be sure to specify what type of clothing you want : dress, skirt, pants, etc.
  • Do you want applique?  Where?
  • What color(s) do you envision for this piece? Do you prefer muted colors or vibrant colors? Both? (My stock varies - I'll let you know what's possible.)
  • Do you shy away from larger patterns? Do you like/dislike bright patterns?  Do you not care either way?
  • What kind of patchwork do you want? Random? Square? Seminole? Striped? None at all? For skirts and dresses, how many panels of patchwork do you want? One down the front? Two down the sides?
  • Do you want lace or other embellishments? How much/where/how big/what color? (My stock varies - I'll let you know what's possible.)

About Your Measurements:

For pants and skirts, make sure you measure yourself where you want the pants/skirt to sit on your body. For a lot of people, this is some place on the hips rather than on the "natural waist." Remember to include a "length" measurement for tops, pants, shorts, skirts and dresses. For pants and skirts, start the measurement where you want the pants/skirt to sit and end it where you want the pants/skirt to end.

For dresses and tops, you'll need five measurements: bust, waist, hips and length. For bust measurement: measure around the fullest part of your bust. For waist measurement: measure around your natural waist. For hips: measure around the fullest part of your hips (hip measurement not needed for shorter tops!). For length: put the tape measure where you'd like the neckline of the bodice to begin and run it loosely down your torso to the place where you want the top/skirt to end. Please also include how many inches of back you'd like to have showing between your lacings.

When your taking measurements, please let me know if your wieght fluctuates a lot or if you want to wear your threads when/if you get pregnant, etc. Through the magic of the drawstring, I can pretty much accomodate it all if you just let me know. Keep in mind that building in extra room means that there will be more "bunching" in the drawstring area during your smaller times. (With the skirts and dresses, this just means a more fullness to the bustle in the back, which I think is extra cute!)
